YARN-New Yarns-2018

Busy day of errands today. Sunny until 11am. When I had to go out after lunch and pick up heavy laundry I decided to use my brother's gift card in Adventures in Knitting in Harwich. 4 skeins and I still have more to spend. go figure.
adding the photos of the hats made with the above yarn
the black yarn looks blue in the photo!

this was delightful yarn to knit with and quick!

as long as I had the camera out and my brain attached here is the yarn bought with Paula's gift. I had a ball in Michael's in Hyannis spending money like water. LOL
for baby blanket
This yarn I went for a walk on the bike path and rolled the skein into a working ball. It took 27 minutes! Started a baby hat today with this yarn- we will see how many I get out of this 3.5 ounce skein. It is nice to handle.
made a baby hat and it started out yellow pale green then an orange color and looked like an inflamed tit or a boil. So I made a pompom

more made from this yarn

shawls
May sound silly but this super saver Red Heart yarn is reliable and easy to work with. Yes it is cheap and it is not wool warmth but it is colorful and lifts the spirits to make it and use it.
okay this is getting confusing  here are more shawls

baby hats
The above yellow and white baby yarn was irresistible. I was going to use it to make all baby hats but decided to make a baby blanket . Last year around this time I was knitting TWO baby blankets with 4 ply white yarn- good grief that was so boring and endless and one of them turned out so floppy I tried to unravel it and reuse and it tangled. So ended up in the trash :(. The other made a nice square to keep my ass warm at the computer. Too impractical to even dare to give it away as a baby blanket all I could envision was grape juice stains all over it.  So after that fiasco I swore I would not attempt another baby blanket. But started this one May 8th 2018. It is slow going 130 stitches. At my rate of doing only 10 minutes per project each knit & walk it will take a while. I did all knit, yesterday thought I would try a pattern of border each end of all knit then in groups of 10 purl then knit etc. Found that too tedious for my knit and walk and keeping track and seeing the stitches. So back to all knit. Which makes a sturdy blanket.

the rest of that yellow and white yarn

these two are Caron Cakes. Each time I buy them they are a different texture and bulk. Not that it matters I usually make hats and shawls.
finished shawl with the bulky one above.

this one being knit is a sticky yarn. soft and the colors are great BUT when I first started the neck warmer it was too tight. With no give to it so I took a walk and unraveled it and wound it up into a ball again. Tried with larger needles and it is fine. But wow the yarn sticks to itself. It was like unraveling something held together with super glue.

Finished this and only enough yarn to make it approximately 8 inches. I have decided to add a draw string to both ends  to make it fit snugly around the neck for warmth but not too tight. I do love the colors.

This will be a challenge. It is very fine not even  sock or fingering weight. But I could not resist the touch of it.
well the above yarn sure is a challenge it tangles and then knots. I started a triangle anyway and am suffering through it. It is very soft and drapes nicely. I googled "tangled yarn" and the solution that seems to work okay is to place the ball of yarn in a zip lock bag and seal it as closely as possible so you can tug the yarn out little by little. It still tangles but I do not panic as much.

assorted hats completed
this from the above baby blanket yarn

and one more baby triangle
and some cowls

time to gather these together- hats to the Hat Tree at Hyannis Public Library and the shawls etc to the Homeless OutReach program

Today I took the bus from South Chatham to The Great Yarn shop. Bus was almost 20 minutes late coming from Hyannis direction and the bus back here from yarn shop was 3 minutes early. Good thing I did not have to pee.

conversation overheard on the bus this morning."Her grandfather fought with Abraham Lincoln in the war of 1812. I see a parcel of land up there in Vermont,3 acres 134,000 a brand new cabin smack in the center of it. I am going up there. If you own property in Vermont your kids go to State Schools free."

my note: this was a run on conversation one guy to a gal and I doubt he meant Lincoln was in Vermont, but perhaps he thought Lincoln freed Aunt Jemima so she could make fake syrup there.

I went in expecting to buy some of the crazies yarn they advertised. It was not what I expected. ( forgot to take a photo of it LOL ) I thought something nubby etc. It was 100% wool sport weight and varied colors in each skein. One skein would NOT make a pair of socks but would make one sock. Aggravating but that's the way it is with Paton yarns as well.
catch the fucking bar code FUC on this LOL shawl yarn I cannot imagine one skein doing one shawl- egads it would cost a fortune at 38 bucks a skein. Not tempting but pretty nonetheless.

various other items in the store

I have definitely had my share of days like this ^^^

What I chose and still have 5 bucks to spend.

Hint for yarn shop owners and yarn producers. make the label show ounces and length and the price clear. Also helps to know if it would make one cock or a pair. Why sell sock yarn in skeins that make one sock???

leaving in that freudian slip just for laughs LOL

Thank you again Dara for the generous gift certificate!
